Our Programs
Explore our multifaceted approach to maternal health
Our community outreach initiatives raise awareness on the dangers of Postpartum Hemorrhage (PPH), educating both the public and healthcare providers on risk factors, prevention strategies, and the significance of the red bracelet system.
Through our Train the Trainer (TtT) initiatives, we collaborate with local hospitals, clinics, and community midwives to implement training programs that emphasize the importance of recognizing the red bracelet and responding effectively to the needs of the wearer. In addition, we conduct comprehensive training sessions for healthcare providers on prevention, early detection, and timely management, using uterotonics, and the use of low-cost sustainable interventions and emergency protocols.
We aim to provide low-cost, heat-resistant uterotonics which are vital in managing PPH effectively. We partner with local health authorities to assess the needs of healthcare facilities and distribute essential medical supplies to ensure they are equipped to manage PPH effectively. By ensuring that healthcare facilities are stocked with these life-saving interventions, we can significantly improve the chances of survival and recovery for mothers experiencing postpartum complications.
Alongside medications, we implement innovative, low-cost solutions and technologies that enhance the management of PPH in low resource communities, such as:
- MaternalWell Tray – a simple blood loss measurement which is mother-centric, affordable, and reusable to facilitate accurate quantitative blood loss (QBL), which is crucial in accurate measurement of blood loss in clinical settings. Visual assessments can often be misleading, leading to underestimation of blood loss. This device provides clinicians with early warning and definitive totals of blood loss, enabling them to initiate emergency measures promptly and prevent the situation from escalating. This proactive approach can significantly improve patient outcomes and ensure better management of postpartum hemorrhage.
- Non-Pneumatic Anti Shock Garment (NASG) – a low-cost, reusable, and evidence-based first-aid device used to stabilize women experiencing obstetric hemorrhage. The NASG works by applying pressure to the lower body, which helps to reduce blood loss and stabilize the patient until they can receive further medical treatment. Its simplicity and effectiveness make it particularly valuable in low-resource communities where access to advanced medical care may be limited.
To facilitate easy access to medications and essential supplies, we develop and distribute PPH kits that contain all necessary items for the timely treatment of PPH. These kits will be readily available in healthcare facilities and community settings, ensuring that healthcare providers have immediate access to the tools they need to respond effectively to PPH cases.
We monitor and evaluate the initiative’s impact by tracking PPH incidents and gathering feedback from healthcare providers, thereby driving continuous improvement in maternal health services. We also track program outcomes, including the number of trained providers, community awareness levels, and maternal health indicators.
