Norah Mucheke, MSN, RNC-OB, CNML,
President & Founder
Norah Mucheke, MSN, RNC-OB, CNML, is the founder and president of Mama Care Africa (MCA). As a certified registered nurse specializing in obstetrics in California, she holds a master’s degree in nursing with a focus on healthcare administration from the University of Phoenix. Norah has held various nursing leadership roles across California's hospitals, where she has successfully managed departments dedicated to maternal and child health. Her experience in healthcare has instilled in her a deep appreciation for the importance of accessibility and quality in essential services, values she now applies to MCA.
As an advocate for maternal health equity, Norah is a fellow at Charles Drew University in Los Angeles, part of California's Black Maternal Health Center of Excellence, where she actively works within the community to address and reduce the disparities in maternal mortality rates between African American women and their white counterparts. As a committed member of the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN), she passionately advocates for safe maternal and child care on both local and global scales.
Moved by the miracle of birth and inspired by the resilience of women, Norah’s true passion lies in supporting women who face challenges in accessing quality healthcare. Through MCA, she is dedicated to fostering innovation and collaboration to create initiatives that promote safe and joyful childbirth experiences for underprivileged women in Africa.

Mary Gacii CNM, MSN, APRN
Co-Founder & Vice President
A Certified Nurse Midwife with over 14 years of experience in Obstetrics Nursing. Her passion for women's
health began while working at the United Nations Population Fund, and she later obtained her Master of
Science in Nursing with a focus in Midwifery. Through out her career, Mary has provided care in various settings, from traditional office settings to high-risk deliveries. She is a strong advocate for patient safety and has played a key role in implementing new protocols and guidelines to improve maternal health
outcomes. Notably, she was part of the team that established an Obstetrics Emergency Department and
implemented new protocols that manages postpartum hemorrhages. Mary is also committed to reducing racial disparities in healthcare and is a fellow with the Black Infant Health department at Charles Drew University. She is a
certified midwife and a member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM). Additionally, her expertise extends to areas typically covered by OB/GYNs, and she is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG)

Nomagugu Chieza
Co-Founder & Programs Director
A passionate advocate for maternal health and well-being. Her entrepreneurial spirit, honed through the Academy of Women Entrepreneurs program (a U.S. exchange with Arizona State University), led to the creation of Impilo Organics, an organic food venture that nourishes both bodies and communities. This dedication to holistic well-being extends to her extensive experience in rural development. From building bridges with indigenous communities for sustainable food systems to establishing the Dora Chisamba
Children's Centre, Nomagugu fosters supportive environments that empower individuals and families to thrive. She brings a wealth of experience in collaboration, community development, and a holistic approach to healthcare, making her a valuable asset to this maternal care initiative.

Brandy Frye MSN, RNC-OB, CCRN-K, TNCC
Director of Education & Advocacy
Brandy Rachel Frye is a master’s degree prepared nurse with over 20 + years of nursing experience in the
Emergency Department, Labor, Delivery, and in the Cardio-Vascular Intensive Care Unit. She is currently a Clinical Nurse Educator at Providence Cedars Sinai Tarzana Medical Center. She holds National Certifications in In-Patient Obstetrics (RNC-OB), Critical Care (CCRN-K) and Trauma Nursing (TNCC). Brandy serves on the Executive team for the Association of Women’s Health Obstetrics & Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) in CA. She has co-authored two published articles and her research study entitled “Challenging implicit Bias Using the Flipped Classroom” was awarded the Maria G. Tilter poster award for Conduct of Research by The University of Iowa at the 30th Annual National Evidence Based Practice Conference in April of 2023. Brandy believes strongly in systemic racism and is always working to be a better ally. Her hope is to get others who look like her, to be cognizant of the possibility of the impact their words and actions have on those around them and to be part of the solution instead of the problem. Brandy is open to being challenged, corrected, uncomfortable and to having conversations with people from all cultural backgrounds and experience.

Dr Portia Manangazira MD, MPH
Director of Operations & Analytics
An award-winning public health physician, by training, community health physician by registration with
extensive work experience in the public health sector, non-governmental organizations, research and academic institutions. Her research interests span the control of communicable and non-communicable diseases, neglected tropical diseases, vaccinology, community and women’s health. Having worked with the Ministry of Health and Child Care, (MOHCC), non-governmental organizations, the
private sector and communities, effectively bringing together requisite partnerships to addressing various
health challenges in her country, region and at global levels. She has recently coordinated the development of the national PHC Revitalization Policy position paper, the National Health Financing Position Paper and is now working on addressing the outdated termination of pregnancy law as part of a national movement which seeks to address the litigative justice and legal rapid response to sexual reproductive health and rights issues in the country. Her hope and current thrust is to work on building back better health delivery system in the aftermath of Covid-19 through strengthening primary healthcare implementation and towards universal health coverage. Currently posted at a district hospital in a remote and needy district of Rushinga she has developed a project proposal to improve health services provision in the district using the Primary Health Care approach.
